Coaches

Coaching rec soccer is a challenging and rewarding way to give back to your community and to this club.

Are you worried that you might not know enough about soccer to coach? Don’t be! Many of our coaches are new to the sport or have been away for a long time before returning to coach! We have lots of resources available to you here, including some that assume very little knowledge of the sport.

Please find information and resources below, and if you haven’t already done so please reach out to us for more information or to volunteer!

USSF Learning Center

The US Soccer Federation (USSF) Learning Center has many resources available to coaches. The free intro course takes about 20 minutes and gives access to some training session plans.

From here if you would like to, you can become a certified Grassroots Licensed coach. This is not free, but it teaches some valuable lessons and grants you access to the rest of the library of training sessions.

Rules

Regardless of experience with the sport, coaches should have a familiarity with the rules. See our page dedicated to this topic for more information.

Soccer Drive

Soccer Drive is a great resource with a lot of free information, including this great page of introductory Soccer Coaching information. If you’ve never played soccer, or are feeling pretty rusty, this is a great place to learn the basics.

gotSport

RNYSA utilizes GotSport to manage coach background and basic training requirements. The board will provide you with an account.

Heja

Heja is the app that RNYSA uses to manage the league and teams. Coaches and parents are all required to use it. See our page about it here.
